2006 JDRF Walk Letter

September 2006
Dear Family and Friends,

As you may know, last year I was privileged to have been a Youth Ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Santa Monica Walk to Cure Diabetes. As an ambassador, I gave speeches at walk events describing to fellow walkers the details of my experience with type 1 diabetes. My time as an ambassador was very rewarding because I was able to dedicate even more of my time and past experiences to help both JDRF’s efforts and other children and teens with diabetes. Last year’s walk inspired me even more than usual, making me want to raise as much money and awareness as I possibly can this walk year. I hope you will join me in my efforts.

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is an organization dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. For the past three years, we have been dedicated to JDRF. My dad has been a member of the Executive Board of the Chapter for the past year. JDRF is on the front line of making a difference and there has been a lot of good news in the last several years. The JDRF Mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

This year, the Los Angeles Walk to Cure Diabetes is set for Sunday, October 22 at Dodger Stadium. Registration will begin at 8am with the actual walk at 10am. You can look forward to a speech from my mom, this year’s Family Walk Team Chair as well. We will be walking around the outside of the stadium as well as going inside onto the warning track! Thanks to you Jessica’s J-Walkers was able to raise almost $55,000 and have 111 walkers last year! This year our goal is to raise $50,000 and have 100 walkers. But we cannot do it without you!

THE WALK IS A GREAT SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT AS WELL!
